IT’S OKAY TO GO BACK IF YOU KEEP MOVING FORWARD
Across an acclaimed career, The Mynabirds have reinvented themselves with every release. WithIt’s Okay To Go Back If You Keep Moving Forward, Burhenn strips it all down to the core.
The new record features three original songs alongside stripped-back acoustic versions of seven Mynabirds favorites. Recorded at 64 Sound and produced by Rilo Kiley’s Pierre de Reeder, Burhenn tracked grand piano and vocals live in the room, joined by musicians playing without overdubs, autotune, or digital instrumentation.
“I felt like I went through a complete ego death with this record — going back to how I first learned to write songs: just me and the piano, late at night, using music as therapy,” Burhenn says. “The record is imperfect, raw, and deeply human, made in a fast-paced, hi-tech time. I joked about calling it ‘AI Could Never.’”

BE HERE NOW (NOW) – RE-RELEASE
Speaking on the re-release of Be Here Now (Now), Burhenn says:
“Eight years ago, I went into the studio in the first weeks of Trump’s presidency and wrote a protest album, Be Here Now. Last fall (2024) when I was on tour during the presidential election — the election that would bring Trump back into office, the vinyl sold out of print.
I decided to do an 8-year anniversary limited edition repressing, Be Here Now (Now) — remastered on colored vinyl, with a previously unreleased song from the original recording sessions — as a fresh round of protest.

GENERALS – REPRESSING
Generals is both a protest record and concept album. It’s fueled by decades of Burhenn’s political frustration and aimed at finding a revolutionary yet pacifist way in a world where, these days, it seems warring comes quick. Lyrically, Generals sings the voice of the collective frustration, then moves beyond that.
The album’s name comes from a Richard Avedon photo entitled “Generals of the Daughters of the American Revolution.” The lineage of women that have stood up to injustice for well over a hundred years, women like Sojourner Truth, Rosa Parks, Gloria Steinem, Naomi Wolf, they get their hands dirty. And Burhenn wanted to pay tribute to that.
